In 2022, the second-ever event is set to take place on June 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The all-day affair begins with a powerful opening ceremony that introduces guests of honor and highlights the importance of supporting combat veterans. Next is a day-long golf tournament followed by a post-event reception and an auction featuring amazing items for sale. The money raised goes to organizations that promote current and former service members' physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Tee It Up for the Troops also allocates some of the funds to REUNION, an outreach program that reunites combat veterans with their comrades from the battlefield. The organization offers various sponsorship levels so that you can support the event however you wish. For instance, the higher tiers allow a combat veteran to accompany your group on the green. You can also pay to be a dinner attendee or even feature your business logo at a hole. LUNG FORCE Walk The American Lung Association reports lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women. Someone is diagnosed with the condition every 2 minutes and 14 seconds, and 80% of these diagnoses result in death. The survival rate has nearly doubled in the past five years, largely thanks to the support from events like LUNG FORCE Walks. The American Lung Association hosts these events around the country every year, and Westchester is home to one this year. You can participate on June 25 at Manhattan College in Purchase, New York. Registration fees for the LUNG FORCE Walk help fund essential lung cancer research and early detection programs to improve the patient outlook. The organization encourages participants to dress in turquoise and even offers a prize for the best turquoise outfit. Throughout the day, you can visit mission tents to sign petitions and take selfies to post on social media. Bring children with you to the Kids Zone, where they can play games and get a souvenir from a balloon artist. Those who want to get even more involved may apply to be part of the leadership committee. VISIONS Annual Charity Golf and Tennis Outing VISIONS is a nonprofit rehabilitation and social service organization that helps blind or visually impaired people. Through VISIONS's services, this demographic can achieve independent living and successfully integrate into various communities. While the organization primarily focuses on supportive services, it also leads education programs that help the public become more accepting of others. This year, VISIONS's 36th Annual Charity Golf and Tennis Outing are occurring on September 19 at Fairview Country Club in Greenwich, Connecticut, only about a 30-minute drive from Westchester. Morning golfers start the day with a continental breakfast and the use of practice facilities before their tee-off time at 8 a.m. If you are part of the afternoon group, you get a lavish brunch and practice time before the 1 p.m. tee-off time. Tennis participants start their round-robin tournament at 2 p.m., and the cocktails and buffet reception take place at 5:30 p.m. The evening closes with sports celebrity introductions, honoree acknowledgments, an awards presentation, and a live auction. Throughout the day, you'll get the chance to learn more about the cause from key organization participants. Annual Women's Distance Festival 5K Image via Pixabay The Road Runners Club of America initially created the Women's Distance Festival to protest the lack of competitive races for women in national competitions and the Olympics. The first event occurred on July 13, 1980, during the men's marathon at the Moscow Olympics. Support for this event helped create long-distance running events for women in the Olympics. Though the Rockland Road Runners group has overseen the event since 1988, the Women's Distance Festival continues to host a 5K every year. Participants are welcome to walk or run the course, and children can participate in the Kids' Fun Run. In 2022, the 35th annual 5K is taking place on July 9. Registration is open to all people who identify as a woman or nonbinary individuals. The event attracts over 1,000 participants and allows you to sign up as an individual or a mother/daughter, sister/sister, or grandmother/granddaughter team. Participants receive a bib, shirt, and swag bag, and the overall winner receives a $100 reward. All funds go towards helping victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. If you can't attend the in-person event, consider participating virtually from July 9 to July 17. Annual Puttin' on the Dog Festival If you're an animal lover, the Annual Puttin' on the Dog Festival by Adopt-A-Dog is a charitable event for you. It's been occurring for 29 years and takes place on September 18 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park. Some attendees come to adopt shelter animals and provide them with the loving homes they deserve. If you're not in the market for a pet, this event is still a great way to support local animal shelters. Money goes to support and socialize animals as they wait for new owners. People of all ages can enjoy live music, demonstrations, and competitions. You can even bring your dog to participate in activities and make new canine friends. You can stroll through the beauty of the gardens before settling in for an evening of enchanting professional music and dance. Performances include a choral concert from Voices of Ascension on June 4, the Persian Saba Ensemble on June 12, and the Westchester Philharmonic String Quartet on June 26. In July, you can look forward to the Mudavis Indian Dance on July 8, Ana Vidovic on classical guitar on July 17, Tom Gold Dance on July 24, and the Townsley's Jubilee Gospel Singers on July 31. Finally, August and early September feature performances by Michael Fennelly & The Athenians, the Victor LaGamma Jazz Trio, Lori Belilove, and the Isadora Duncan Dance Company. Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Tours On the western edge of Westchester County, the town of Sleepy Hollow contains some of the spookiest cemetery lore in the country. Experience the thrills firsthand by signing up for a Sleepy Hollow Cemetery tour. You can sign up for the daytime tour, which is available on weekends in the summer through August. This tour will teach guests about the short story that made Sleepy Hollow famous and its author, Washington Irving. If you're fascinated by the town's history, you might be interested in the Good, the Band, and the Unusual! tour that features local historians. If you want actual goosebumps, you can also opt for an evening lantern tour. These take place on Saturday nights during the summer and allow visitors to seek out iconic gravestones through kerosene lanterns. You can also keep an ear out for the Sleepy Hollow Murder and Mayhem event, which includes a two-hour lantern-lit walking tour, complete with actors in roles like a pair of brothers involved in a murder-suicide and a deadly opera singer. The hosting group doesn't recommend this event for guests younger than 18. Sky Tonight Planetarium Show Visit the planetarium this summer to see the sky as you've never seen it before with the Sky Tonight Planetarium Show. Purchase tickets for the hourlong interactive show, then sit back and gaze at planets, stars, the Milky Way, comets, and more. You'll also learn about constellations, black holes, alien worlds, and meteor showers. If you're lucky, you may spot a satellite or learn about upcoming rocket launches. Mornings in June are also a particularly good time to see planets in the night sky, so you can plan your planetarium visit accordingly. This event is recommended for guests ages 8 and older, and Domino Sugar Yonkers Refinery sponsors it. Guests are currently required to wear masks. Although the planetarium allows walk-ins, it highly encourages advanced registration. Caramoor Concerts and Tea In the northeastern portion of Westchester County, you'll find a mecca of summer events known as the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. This organization hosts a captivating series of summer events set amid the glorious gardens and grounds. These events can make the perfect relaxing day trip for families or a romantic evening date. You can book an afternoon tea session and enjoy special tea flavors, like Ceylon waltz black tea, raspberry-pomegranate iced tea, or a green rooibos tea. You can also enjoy sandwiches like the curried chicken salad and arugula on a mini brioche bun. Try to time your visit to coincide with one of the exciting cultural events the Caramoor hosts. A few upcoming events include a soundscapes event featuring performances from vocal percussionist Dominic Talifero, the percussive dancing duo of Caleb Teicher and Nic Gareiss, and a music experience from Raquel Acevedo Klein, all on the Caramoor grounds on June 5. It also plans to host a Juneteenth celebration in collaboration with the town of Bedford on June 19. Classical music lovers are also in luck because on June 18, the Venetian Theater is hosting a concert by Yo-Yo Ma & the Knights. Storytime at Muscoot Farm Every Wednesday this summer, you and your little ones can enjoy a story read aloud at the Orange Tractor on Muscoot Farm. This is one of many Muscoot Farm events targeted toward young children and their caretakers. After the story, the group can take a walk around the farm and enjoy a lot of exciting farm sights and smells. The registration fee is $20 per child. If you enjoy the farm atmosphere, you can also explore the other exciting events, like Morning Farm Chores on Saturdays and Farm Skills on Tuesdays. Both of these events give young children the opportunity to learn new skills and experience farm life from a young age. You can also sign up for the Thursday evening Book and Cook events, where children and caregivers can listen to a story and then cook a delicious treat that connects to the story they just heard. Mulino's of Westchester Mulino's of Westchester is an upscale Italian restaurant that's a short 10-minute walk from Pavilion Mall. When you walk in, the atmosphere is sure to impress you. Art deco light fixtures hang from the ceiling to create a vintage environment that calls 1930s France to mind. There are also beautiful floral upholstered chairs and white tablecloths to further enhance the restaurant's ambiance. The restaurant's menu is also impressive, as there are many dishes to order. You can start off with a delicious appetizer like the Spiedino a la Romana, which is a house-made mozzarella loaf with capers, anchovies, and olives in your choice of a white or red wine sauce. This bread pairs well with various wines from France, America, and Italy. You can order wine by the glass or by the bottle, depending on if you come in a group or not. Mulino's of Westchester offers some rare blends, some of which have been aging since the 20th century. When it comes time to order your main course, you may have trouble picking. There are various pasta dishes, including the Gnocchi Mulino and the Penne Arrabbiata if you're looking for a true Italian experience. There are also chicken- and fish-based dishes if you're looking for something a bit different. We personally recommend the Cernia Marechario, which is a Florida red snapper sauteed in light tomato sauce with a side of New Zealand clams. Even if you normally don't order dessert at restaurants, we don't recommend skipping this part of your meal at Mulino's of Westchester. There are several homemade menu items, including the Sicilian Style Cannoli and the Mulino's Italian Cheesecake. We also recommend the Florida Seedless Oranges with Grand Marnier, which you can watch the chefs make right by your table. Blue Hill Farm Blue Hill Farm is a classy establishment in Pocantico Hills. Inside, you'll find classy white tablecloths, expansive ceilings, and oversized booths t hat provide comfortable seating. You can get a four, five, or eight-course meal, so be sure to arrive with an empty stomach. While there's no set menu, some foods that the staff may serve you include lamb, zucchini blossoms, and soft-shell crab. If you're looking for a classy beverage, the bar has plenty of options available. You can order from various imported beers, sakes, cocktails, and wines. If you want more of a personalized experience, you can rent out the establishment's private dining room for a few hours. This room seats up to 14 people and overlooks Blue Hill Farm's herb garden, which provides a gorgeous view as you dine. Xaviar's Xaviar's is a high-end restaurant that sits on a pier on the Hudson River. The entire restaurant is glass-enclosed to provide every patron with spectacular views. You may choose indoor or outdoor seating, which is great for enjoying a meal regardless of the weather or your current mood. While the restaurant primarily focuses on offering dinner, you can come in on Friday afternoon for lunch and Sunday afternoon for brunch. When you sit down during dinner hours, the menu options might overwhelm you at first. One of our favorite selections is the grilled swordfish, which comes with leaf spinach, a baby Yukon potato, and soy mirin glaze. If you want to step away from seafood, you can get something like the classic beef wellington. This dish comes with wild mushrooms and foie gras duxelles. No matter what you get as your main course, we highly recommend giving the side dishes more than a quick glance. All the sides at Xaviar's are great additions to any meal you order. For instance, you can get the steamed jumbo asparagus that comes with a creamy hollandaise sauce. Other memorable sides include the creamed spinach, the truffled potato puree, and the chive popovers. Red Hat on the River Red Hat on the River is a fine-dining restaurant that's been in business since 2003. The waterfront building in Irvington comfortably seats 120 guests at a time. The building, which was once a factory, has existed for over 100 years. It has undergone extensive renovations to create a modern, welcoming environment, but the establishment still has undertones of its rustic charm. The restaurant describes itself as a modern French restaurant, but it also serves familiar new American fare that's hard to resist. For instance, you can start your dining experience with a shareable appetizer like the avocado chimichurri toast and the lemon aioli zucchini sticks. You'll see the restaurant's French roots jump out in its entrees, as it offers menu items like the pan-seared French cut chicken breast and the short rib bourguignon. La Cremaillere La Cremaillere is a high-end restaurant in Bedford that lives in what was once a farmhouse, and it also has its own wine cellar. The chefs focus on serving classic French cuisine, although they also incorporate some European dishes into the menu. One of the most delicious items is the Long Island Duck Breast A L'Orange, which comes with orange-infused celery root, celery root puree, and duck jus. You can also get the pan-seared diver scallops that come with fine herbs, asparagus, and lemon beurre blanc. Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate Kykuit, also known as the Rockefeller Estate, is part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation due to its prominence within the Rockefeller family over the past 100 years. Kykuit began as the home of John D. Rockefeller, who founded the Standard Oil company and would establish one of the most influential and wealthy families in American history. Kykuit has been home to four generations of Rockefellers, solidifying its spot as one of the most important and visited sites in the Hudson Valley. At Kykuit, you can take a tour of the massive estate's 40 rooms, beautiful outdoor gardens, a vast art collection, and unbeatable views of the Hudson Valley. Kykuit has a selection of excursions, including classic, landmark, and time-saver tours, which cost $28 per adult and $26 for seniors, students, and children. For the grand tour of the property, tickets are $45 for all non-members. Kykuit is open for certain months of the year, usually between May and September, with special tour dates on holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point One of the most visited attractions in Hudson Valley is the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, located in West Point, New York. West Point is the oldest military academy in the country and has had various notable alumni, including former presidents Grant and Eisenhower. A trip to West Point isn't complete without a visit to the restored Fort Putnam, a former Continental Army garrison during the Revolutionary War located right on the school's campus. The West Point Museum is filled with military history and artifacts, including collections of weapons, artwork, uniforms, and other memorabilia. First-time visitors may prefer to take a guided bus tour. They can visit all of the campus's most iconic attractions while learning about the area's history and importance within the historic U.S. military system. Philipsburg Manor Just a short way from Kykuit is Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow, a former milling and trading complex that housed 23 enslaved people of African descent throughout the 18th century. Frederick Philipse, a Dutch carpenter, came to what was then the Dutch colony of New Netherland in 1653 and came to own 52,000 acres of modern-day Westchester County. When the British assumed control of the colony and renamed it New York, Philipse aligned with them, and his business flourished. By 1750, the Manor housed hundreds of tenant farmers in addition to its nearly two dozen African slaves. A visit to Philipsburg Manor involves walking through the property's various sections, like the working gristmill. Learn about Caesar, an enslaved miller, and his work on the complex. Take a tour throughout the main house and gaze in awe at the collection of antique artifacts from the 18th century and earlier. The activity center is another great place to visit, where you can learn about the day-to-day routines and labor of the manor's many inhabitants. Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site The last must-see spot on our list of the top historical attractions in the Hudson River Valley is the Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site, located in Stony Point, New York. History enthusiasts can appreciate this site's direct link to the Revolutionary War. Stony Point was the location of the American raid on what was formerly a British stronghold led by General Anthony Wayne on July 16th, 1779. Today, the site is home to a military museum where visitors can view Revolutionary War-era artifacts and equipment collections. Stony Point Battlefield is a historic site in New York due to its importance in the outcome of the Revolutionary War. The site also has a lighthouse dating back to 1826, with the distinction of being the oldest lighthouse on the Hudson River. The property also has various outdoor picnic areas and an optional walking tour. Some of the entertainment and informative sessions at the site occur through historical reenactments, where actors highlight different aspects of military life in the 18th century. From expansive reservoirs to newly upgraded riverfront piers, we’ve put together a list of excellent fishing spots all within a short drive of our dealership! more Blue Mountain Reservation Park Blue Mountain Reservation Park is a park and nature preserve just five minutes from downtown Cortlandt. Anglers might catch local freshwater species in the park's several ponds, such as bass. Fishing at the park requires a state permit. The park also features extensive hiking trails, including access to the Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway, a 12-mile unpaved trek through the woods. For family fun, enjoy the park's picnic areas and playgrounds or spend an afternoon at the Sportsman Center, an outdoor shooting range and recreational facility. Croton Gorge Park Ten minutes from Cortlandt, Croton Gorge Park is on the westernmost tip of the New Croton Reservoir. This park, built around the base of the Croton Dam, marks the start of the Croton River and is a popular spot for anglers. You can catch freshwater fish, including largemouth bass and smallmouth bass, at this location. You'll need an NYC DEP watershed permit and a New York State fishing license to fish here. While the fishing area at Croton Gorge Park is smaller than the fishing area at other locations, the park also has excellent views of the Old Croton Aqueduct. New Croton Reservoir On the other side of the reservoir from Croton Gorge Park, New Croton Reservoir 's fishing area is a great spot to land a big fish. The last stop on the Croton Watershed before the river empties into the Hudson. The reservoir offers 2,182 acres of freshwater, filled with various fish, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and sunfish. This is one of the best spots in the county for heavy-weight freshwater fish, as anglers frequently report landing 7-pound bass. It would be best to have a free NYC DEP watershed permit and a New York State fishing license to fish here. Note for 2026: As a reminder for Westchester County freshwater fishing, you must hold a valid New York State fishing license alongside a free, updated NYC DEP Watershed Access Permit to fish along the shoreline or keep a registered rowboat here. Croton Point Park Croton Point Park is in the village of Croton-on-Hudson, 10 minutes away from Cortlandt. This 508-acre park, built on one of the largest Native American forts south of the Hudson Highlands, features space for fishing, picnics, and hiking, making it a fantastic spot for the whole family. It's also the site of the Croton Point Nature Center and historic wine cellars. From April to October, the park allows boat launching. Fishing permits and boat registrations are required here. This county park remains a prime hub for river access. For those planning to fish offshore, boat launching ramps and kayak rentals are fully operational seven days a week from April through October. George's Island Park A 208-acre riverside park just 10 minutes away from Cortlandt, George's Island Park offers river views and fishing. You can fish in the park's freshwater pond or the estuary wetlands and riverfront area. You can also launch rowboats and canoes into the Hudson River from the park's boat access point seven days a week from April through October. To fish here, you'll need a state fishing license, plus a boat registration if you plan to fish offshore. The park also features wooded trails and picnic areas, and it's a popular spot to see eagles. Charles Point Park Charles Point Park is a premier choice for Hudson River fishing spots just minutes from Cortlandt. This spot has received an incredible upgrade following a multi-million-dollar restoration of the historic Fleischmann Pier. The newly reconstructed, ADA-compliant pier has been widened and outfitted with custom viewing areas, benches, and specialized platforms designed explicitly to enhance the local shoreline fishing experience. Anglers here frequently land striped bass, white perch, and catfish while enjoying unobstructed, panoramic views stretching all the way up to the Bear Mountain Bridge. It’s a clean, fully modernized, and highly accessible park that belongs at the top of every local angler's list! Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park is a 15-minute drive from Cortlandt and features two main fishing areas, Mohansic Lake and Crom Pond. Both areas offer anglers the chance to catch several fish species, including largemouth bass and panfish. You can fish from the shore, rent a rowboat, or use your boat. To fish here, you'll need a state fishing license and a regional boating permit if you plan to use your boat. FDR State Park also offers a wide range of activities for the whole family, including paddle boat rentals, picnic areas, and walking trails. Amawalk Reservoir Located 20 minutes from Cortlandt in Granite Springs, Amawalk Reservoir provides 564 fishing space for anglers. Brown trout are the most common fish in this reservoir because New York stocks the water with 1,600 fish every spring. You can also find largemouth bass, brown bullheads, chain pickerel, and other fish. The reservoir features shore fishing and a boat launch for rowboats. To fish here, you'll need a fishing license, an NYC DEP pass, and a current registration for your rowboat if you plan to use one. Rockefeller State Park Preserve Located 20 minutes from Cortlandt, Rockefeller State Park Preserve is a nature preserve with over 1,771 acres of natural woodland. The preserve's main fishing area is Swan Lake, a 22-acre lake for shoreline fishing. Fish species in this lake include largemouth bass, pumpkinseed, bluegill, and yellow perch. Fishing here requires a state fishing license. While you are at the preserve, enjoy some of the other attractions of this natural treasure, like the 13 Bridges Loop Trail, a 1.9-mile trek through beautiful forests leading to the 13 bridges of the Gory Brook. Do you ever watch racing, whether it's cars, motorcycles, trucks, or even Go-Karts, and wonder what it would be like to get out there on the track? In and around the Cortlandt, New York area, several race tracks offer the opportunity for amateurs to try out their driving skills against others and even trail with a professional. If you don't want to drive but like to watch, you can do that too. The speedway has several divisions, including: Modified The modified division is for any engine with both big and small blocks allowed. The only exceptions are no aluminum blocks, no in-line valves, and no staggered valves. Sportsman The Sportsman division is for Crate 602 GM motors. This factory-sealed 350 horsepower must have the original GM breakaway bolts or the correct lead seals along with documentation showing the name of the engine repairer. Pure Stock The Pure Stock division is for the entry-level driver or the hobbyist. It's not intended for high-dollar cars. Driver's have to be at least 14 years old, and drivers under 18 must have a release signed by their parents on file at the speedway. You must have a fire extinguisher capable of putting out fuel and oil fires in the pit area. All cars in this division are subject to inspection and re-inspection at any time throughout the season to make sure everyone is following the rules. Windless Sprints The Windless Sprints division accepts GM 602 Crate Engines. All conversions have to be done by Hunts Machine, and all engines sealed when completed. No tampering with the engine or engine seals is allowed and will result in immediate disqualification. 4 Cylinder Division The 4 Cylinder Division is another entry-level division. Modifications are allowed by cars must be registered and inspected. Oakland Valley Race Park Oakland Valley Race Park in Cuddebackville, New York, is a premier outdoor kart and two-wheel racing facility. The track opens from April through November as long as the weather permits. On race weekends, the gates open at 8 a.m., with practice sessions starting at 10 a.m. Admission to races is $15, and everyone must wear an insurance wristband. Kart Racing The park offers club racing, hosts the New York State Championship Race, and has vintage kart racing. If you want to head to the track to practice, they offer open practice times with your own kart. Nonmembers can pay $65 for a one-day access pass, or if you become a member, it's $5 for a day pass. A $15 pit pass is required for everyone on the property. Motorcycle Racing Oakland has Supermoto and road racing. It's part of the Northeast Supermoto Challenge and Ohvale Super Cup Series. You can bring your bike to the track to practice during open practice days. The same fees apply for members and nonmembers as the karting open practice. Ride HVMC Ride HVMC in Ossining, New York, offers experienced drivers and amateurs a quality track experience. They offer one-on-one rider instruction by Corey Alexander if you want to take a lesson and improve your driving and racing skills. Corey is a professional racer in the MotoAmerica and American Flat Track Series and a trained instructor. The track offers a safe place to ride where everyone goes in the same direction, there are no cars to get in the way, and the track has a perfect surface. Before heading to the track, you'll want to become familiar with the requirements for motorcycles and make sure to check yours before bringing it. It must: Be a well-prepared bike with at least a 250 cc. Have no fluid leaks. Have good brakes. Have tape over the mirrors or mirrors removed. Have a disconnected brake light or bulbs removed. Have adequate chain slack. Have new tires or tires in excellent shape. Grand Prix Extreme Play Park The Grand Prix Extreme Play Park in Mount Kisco, New York, is a family fun center for people who love speed. It offers Grand Prix Go Kart Racing on an indoor track. Getting on the track is easy; you just need to sign up. The facility provides all the safety equipment, and even the kids can race with a signed waiver from their parents. If you want to learn more about how to drive, you can sign up for a lesson. The qualified instructors will work with the kids one-on-one on a privately booked track. They will teach them about following the driving line, how to stay in control, and how to pass. Taking a lesson is a good way to get kids qualified to drive on the larger tracks and faster karts. Monticello Motor Club Monticello Motor Club is a member-only motor club with over four miles of racetrack asphalt designed to provide a thrilling driving experience for car enthusiasts and racing lovers. Monticello offers driving instructions, race car and streetcar rentals, and access to a track with 12 configurations, 20 different turns, and over a mile and a half of straights. Members have almost unlimited access to the track during the driving season, and there's a service center on-site that will provide everything from routine maintenance to extensive repairs. Teen race camps run throughout the season with instructors to teach teens racing and defensive driving techniques, and there's also a racing school, team challenges, and some member races.
