How to Reset Oil Change Light

Most vehicles have various lights and indicators on the dash to help you understand what's happening with your car. If some of them light up, such as the check engine light, it can be alarming, as it signals a problem. Others, such as the oil change light, are simply reminders that it's time to have your car or truck serviced. An essential part of vehicle ownership is knowing why the oil change light comes on, what to do about it, and how to turn it off again. Service Specials Service Center New Vehicles Why Does the Oil Change Light Come On? The oil change light will illuminate your car's dash when it senses it's time for an oil change. Usually, a vehicle will illuminate the oil change light when you've driven a certain number of miles since your last oil change. This is convenient for drivers because you don't have to keep track of your mileage, such as when you last changed the oil or at what mileage you should change it again. You don't want to ignore this signal. Your car tells you it needs new oil to keep running smoothly. Over time, the oil in your car gets dirty. This is a normal process of the oil working in the engine, but you need to replace the oil regularly to keep it doing its job properly. If it becomes too dirty, it causes unnecessary wear on your engine, leading to many problems. What Should I Do About It? When you see the oil change light come on, make an appointment to have it changed. You can also change it yourself at home if you'd rather. Ensure you're prepared with the right equipment and know the correct steps before you begin. It's best to change the oil as soon as possible once the oil change light comes on. The standard rule was that the oil in a vehicle needed to be changed once every three months or every 3,000 miles. More recently, changes in the way automobiles and oil are made mean you can now go longer between oil changes. Consult your owner's manual to find out exactly how long you can wait, but the oil change light in your car should be set to that interval and come on automatically when it's time for your vehicle to be serviced. How Soon Do I Need To Have My Oil Changed? Once you see the change oil light illuminated on your dash, make an appointment to change the oil. You still have about 500 miles before encountering problems, but that's only about two weeks of driving, or possibly even less if you drive a significant amount. You don't want to damage your car or truck by ignoring the signs that it needs an oil change. In the long run, waiting will cost you considerably more than going in for an oil change as soon as possible. So, don't delay. Make the appointment as soon as you see the light so you know you'll be able to get your car serviced before the old oil causes any damage. How Do I Reset the Oil Change Light? It's important to know that the oil change light doesn't automatically reset once you've had the oil changed. You'll have to do this manually; the sooner you do it after the oil changes, the better. This resets the sensor so your vehicle knows when it's time to change the oil again. If you delay resetting it, you could be driving around with old dirty oil before you even know it's time for a change. How you reset the check oil light depends on the make and model of your car or truck. Below, we outline the basic steps to reset the light for some more common vehicle types. If you can't find your particular vehicle here, the steps to reset the light can be found in your owners manual. GMC and Chevrolet Vehicles With a Vehicle Information Center (VIC) Turn on your car's power by turning the key in the ignition twice or pushing the start/stop button twice. The dash lights should come on, but the engine will remain off. Press the menu button until you see "remaining oil life." Press "set/clr" and then "yes" to reset the oil change light. Honda With a VIC Turn on the car's power but not the ignition. Use your center display to press “settings,” then “vehicle,” then “maintenance options.” Find “reset items,” “engine oil,” and then press “reset.” Ford or Jeep With a VIC Turn on your car's power but not the engine. Do this by turning the key in the ignition twice or pressing the start/stop button twice. Use the buttons on the wheel to find “settings” on your dashboard then “vehicle.” Find “oil life” and then press and hold “OK.” GMC, Chevrolet, Dodge, or Jeep (no VIC) Turn on the car's power without starting the engine. Press the gas pedal down three times, briefly pausing between each press. Turn the car off then back on again. Honda (no VIC) Turn the vehicle's power on but don't start the engine. Press the trip button until you see “oil life” on the dash. Press and hold the trip button until “oil life” starts to blink. Release the button, and then press it again until you see “oil life” stop blinking and reset to 100%. Ford (no VIC) Turn on power to your vehicle without starting the engine. Press on the gas and brake pedals at the same time. Keep holding down the pedals until you see “reset complete” on the dash. Toyota Turn the power on to your vehicle but don't start the engine. Press the trip button on the dash until you see “trip A.” Turn the car off, hold down the trip button, then turn the power back on. Keep holding the trip button until the “resetting maintenance data” message disappears. Where Can I Go if I Need Help? Regular maintenance is essential if you want your vehicle to run smoothly. Don't skip out on this important part of keeping your car in top shape. If you need an oil change or help resetting your oil change light after your car or truck has been serviced, call our service department. Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Electric Vehicle Lineup

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, more commonly known as FCA, makes up one-half of the merger that forms Stellantis, which is a multinational auto manufacturer that owns the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Fiat brands of motor vehicles. Stellantis has recognized the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in today's automotive market and plans to broaden its own selection of EVs. In fact, the company plans to offer more than 75 battery EVs and realize at least 50% of U.S. sales in this segment by 2030. Let's look at some of the most exciting electric models currently available in this ever-growing lineup, as well as a potential all-electric pickup truck slated for release in 2024. Jeep Wrangler 4xe The 4xe is the plug-in hybrid version of Jeep's popular Wrangler model. Originally introduced in late 2020, the 4xe model combines the ruggedness of the Wrangler with the fuel economy and instant torque of a battery electric car. The current 2022 release of the Wrangler 4xe is available in three distinct trims: Sahara 4xe. Rubicon 4xe. High Altitude 4xe. At each trim level, you get a hybrid powertrain that includes two electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack, and a 2-liter turbocharged I-4 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Powered by this setup, you can expect a fuel economy of 49 MPGe as well as a 21-mile all-electric range. Altogether, you're looking at a driving range of 370 miles before you need to stop to refuel. You can go from Cortland to New York City half a dozen times without a single stop at a fuel pump or charging station. Keep in mind that this is still a Wrangler, so you get to enjoy its renowned off-roading capabilities and its powertrain's environmental friendliness. Not only that, but you also get a variety of excellent features. All trims come with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start capability, a Corning Gorilla Glass windshield, and an infotainment system that includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen and a nine-speaker sound system. With the Rubicon 4xe, you also get electronic locking differentials and an anti-roll bar, while the Sahara comes standard with driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors. Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid Although the history of the Pacifica goes back to the late 1990s, its current iteration saw its beginnings in the 2017 model when it hit the market as the first plug-in hybrid minivan. In 2022, it remains the only minivan available as a plug-in, and it certainly excels in that niche. Its displays a tremendous fuel economy of 80 MPGe, with an all-electric range exceeding 30 miles and a total range greater than 500 miles. In addition to its plug-in capability, the Pacifica features a regenerative braking system that charges the battery with kinetic energy every time you stop. All three trim levels—Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle—feature a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that partners with an electric motor and 16-kWh battery, providing a total system output of 260 horsepower. On top of that, the vehicle offers a terrific amount of interior space. With a total SAE volume of 197.3 cubic feet, the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid, with second-row captain's chairs, comfortably seats seven people. Even in the third row, you get more than 36 inches of legroom. As for cargo space, this model offers a minimum of 32.3 cubic feet, which expands to a maximum of 165 cubic feet. The interior features are also impressive and conducive to family travel. Distributed around the cabin, you'll find 10 cup holders and more than enough USB ports to charge everyone's mobile devices. Parents in the front row can easily watch their passengers with the conversation mirror affixed to the rearview or with an optional interior camera. And for family entertainment, there's the innovative Uconnect Theater system, which includes two 10.1-inch rear-seat screens, streaming content, and a Blu-Ray player. Ram 1500 The Ram 1500 is one of the toughest and most dependable pickup trucks on the market today. Its eTorque mild hybrid system, introduced in the 2019 model, improved its fuel economy without compromising on power. The entry-level engine for the 2022 Ram 1500 is a V-6 that pairs with the eTorque system, which is also available with the higher-level 5.7-liter V-8. With this configuration, the Ram 1500 can get up to 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway—several miles per gallon better than its competitors. You can expect even greater capability from the Ram brand in 2024 when we anticipate the release of the all-electric Ram 1500 EV model. Since the estimated range for this model is up to 500 miles, it will certainly outperform other electric pickups in terms of travel distance. An optional range extender will also be available, which uses an internal combustion engine only to recharge the vehicle's batteries. Used Vehicle Question Checklist

Purchasing a new-to-you vehicle can be both daunting and exciting. There's so much to think about when considering a vehicle that someone else has previously owned, including how well the vehicle was cared for by the previous owner. When you're buying a used vehicle from a private seller, there are several questions you need to ask yourself before you seal the deal. Here's a used vehicle question checklist to help you prepare for your car-buying experience. How Well Was the Vehicle Maintained? Image via Flickr by Hugo-90 This question can encompass everything from how the previous owner drove the vehicle to whether or not routine maintenance services were performed. You should find out if the vehicle received routine maintenance and whether those services were performed by the previous owner, a mechanic shop, an independent mechanic, or a dealership's service department. Also, ensure that the vehicle is up to date on any maintenance needs. If possible, speak directly to the mechanic who performed the services to get their take on the vehicle's condition. You can also ask if the service records are available. If the service records are readily available, it typically means that the previous owner kept up with routine maintenance and put a lot of care into the vehicle. You may also want to consider asking if you can take the vehicle to your mechanic for an inspection prior to purchasing. Has the Vehicle Been in Any Accidents? You might be able to get information on any accidents the vehicle was involved in on a vehicle history report, such as Carfax. Don't assume that the vehicle history report catches every accident, so it's best to ask the previous owner if they're aware of any accidents. If a vehicle has been involved in an accident, that doesn't mean you shouldn't consider purchasing it, but you should find out the extent of the damage and how it was fixed. What Is the Vehicle's Ownership History? Again, this information is often included on a vehicle history report, but ask if the ownership history is known when possible. Use terms such as original owner to get to the bottom of how many owners the vehicle has had. Watch for red flags such as very short periods of ownership, especially if the current owner is the one who has owned the vehicle for a very short time. This expedited sale of the vehicle may signal issues that the current owner doesn't want to deal with, so they're selling it to unload those issues onto someone else. Why Are You Selling the Vehicle? When buying from a private seller, you may want to ask them why they have decided to sell the vehicle. While most owners will provide you with a canned response, such as upgrading or the vehicle is no longer needed, you may gain insight into the reason if you pay attention to how they answer this question. Watch for body language that may indicate they're uncomfortable answering this question to signal that the reason is possibly not good. Ideally, the owner would be upfront and honest if the vehicle has issues that they cannot resolve or afford, but realistically you'll have to trust your gut on this one. How Many Miles Are on the Vehicle? More miles often means that the vehicle is more likely to have problems in the near future, but you can also take this time to discuss the type of driving those miles include. You can ask whether the miles are mostly city or highway driving, how many of those miles the current owner put on the vehicle, and whether or not those miles aren't reflective of the vehicle's condition for any reason. If the engine was replaced, the odometer would have lower miles than what is on the vehicle body, which should also be considered. Do You Have the Title in Hand? The private seller may not have the title in hand if there's a loan with a remaining balance held by a bank or other financial institution. While you can purchase a vehicle from someone who owes money on a loan, you should know that it complicates the process slightly. The loan will have to be paid in full before the title is released. You may want to go with the owner to the bank as they use your payment to pay off the loan to ensure the title is released. Also, if the owner has lost the title, it will need to be replaced before it can be released to you. The owner will have to go to the DMV to replace the title for a fee and then sign it over to you. Purchasing a used vehicle from a private seller that has the title in hand is easier and quicker. Are There Any Features That Don't Work as Expected? If a window doesn't go down when you push the button, the USB port doesn't provide a charge, the brake lights don't work, or any other feature needs repair, it should be disclosed when you ask this question. Again, in an ideal world, the current owner would be forthright with this information. By asking, you're forcing them to consider anything that may not work on the vehicle and prompting them to share that information. You can still purchase a used vehicle with a broken feature, but knowing the cost to fix it or that it's irreparable may influence your decision. Are There Any Signs of Pets or Smoking? This question is a personal preference but, for some, it can be a deciding factor. If you suffer from severe allergies to pet dander and the current owner's dog goes with them on every trip, you may want to keep looking. Likewise, if you're a nonsmoker and do not wish to smell the remnants of cigarette smoke, its presence will influence your decision. When you're ready to purchase a used vehicle, consider stopping by Bill Volz Westchester dealership to browse our selection of pre-owned vehicles. We can help you take some of the guesswork out of purchasing used and provide you with peace of mind when it comes to your purchase. Give us a call at 855-970-4626, or drop us a message via our secure online messaging system. A team member would be happy to answer any questions you may have or get you set up for a test drive.

Once the contract ends, you can choose to buy or return the car to the dealership. Car leases, to some extent, are similar to car loans. However, they are different in that you will pay lower monthly payments. While this is an advantage, this type of contract is disadvantageous as you will not be building any equity during the lease period. In this case, therefore, leasing a car is most cost-effective if you want to drive a new model without owning or paying for it. However, you must understand the terms of the lease. Also, you need to limit how much you drive since the lease contract specifies the number of miles you can travel during the lease period. All these factors will tell you whether leasing is the best option for you or not. Owning a vehicle no longer needs to remain a dream anymore. What to Know When Shopping for Used Cars

If you're in the market for a good used vehicle, then you're in the right place. Bill Volz Westchester has a variety of options when it comes to quality used vehicles. We have everything from daily commuters and off-road-ready options such as the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, to premium luxury vehicles. Know What You Need Before you start shopping for a quality used vehicle, you need to decide what you need out of that vehicle. Are you looking for something family-friendly, fuel-efficient, or luxurious? For example, if you need to haul stuff for work or play, you may want to look at the selection of trucks at Bill Volz Westchester. Consider the features you want as well when making your list. Inspect the Vehicle Once you've settled on the vehicle of your dreams, be sure to take a moment to inspect it thoroughly. You may even want to have your regular mechanic take a look at it to make sure it's in tip-top shape. If you don't have a mechanic to inspect it for you, there are plenty of options in the Cortlandt area who would be happy to help. Get a Vehicle History Ask for the CarFax on the vehicle you've selected. A CarFax report will provide you with information on the vehicle, including the number of owners and whether or not it's been in an accident. Just because a vehicle was in an accident doesn't mean you need to walk away from it, but having that knowledge helps in the decision-making process. Consider a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Every vehicle listed as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle passes a stringent certification process and, if it passes, then undergoes a 125-point inspection. You can also add a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, 24-hour towing and roadside assistance, car rental allowance, and a 3-month/3,000-mile maximum care coverage to any of our CPO vehicles. Know Your Budget Purchasing a quality used vehicle is an investment, and you want to be sure you can afford that investment. If you plan to finance your vehicle, take the time to consider these three things: Monthly payment. When considering how much of a monthly payment you can afford, be sure to include the finance payment, fuel, and insurance. Loan length. Your next consideration should be how long you want to make payments on the vehicle Loans with longer terms typically have a lower monthly payment but a higher interest rate. It's best to take out an auto loan for the shortest amount of time that you can afford. Interest rate. Each lending institution has a different interest rate to offer and may even compete to earn your business by offering lower interest rates. When shopping around for a lender, watch all of the terms of the loan. Our finance team works with each customer to ensure they get the right finance program to fit their needs at a competitive rate. You can apply online to become prequalified or use our payment calculator to help you determine your budget. We will work with you to get you the best loan possible to finance the vehicle of your dreams here at Bill Volz Westchester.

HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE DO WINTER TIRES MAKE?

Being a New York resident means you are no stranger to snow. It’s a part of living in the “Snow Belt,” and we all accept it as inevitable. So is your car fully equipped to take on the snow? The team at Bill Volz Westchester believes that having snow tires is extremely important, and we think you should come by our dealership and get some now before it’s too late. Are you driving a vehicle that’s either all-wheel-drive or has all-season tires on your front-wheel-drive sedan? Do you think that the stability control of your rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan will keep you safe? Well, think again. While these features may provide peace of mind, the bottom line is that anyone who regularly drives in snowy, icy winter weather conditions can benefit from snow tires. Here is what makes these modern-day snow tires stand out. Special Rubber And Design Modern Winter tires make a bigger difference now than ever before due to their special rubber and design. The rubber is special because it does not lose flexibility below 0 degrees. This is important because the rubber compound in a winter tire has to bend and flex for the special tread design to clear the road surface of snow, ice, water and slush, as well as get a grip through muck. This rubber is exclusively for winter and all-season tires, and the tread design is also unique. The unique tread design can self-clean by channeling water out of the tire’s footprint and digging through ice for traction. This is utilized by designing the tread pattern to move as the tire rolls forward. The rubber compound allows flexing, while “siping” is used on snow treads. Siping is a semi-segmenting of each tread lug to make it malleable while the tire rolls down the road. Purchasing The Right Winter Tires Thankfully, at Bill Volz Westchester, we offer tire specials on our website.
