The first Ram truck was built in 1981 and quickly rose to the top of the pickup segment in the United States. Since then, Ram has earned a solid reputation for pickups with top-tier power and interior comfort that’s more often found in sedans. Lately, that comfort rivals what you see in many luxury brands, and the incredible power that comes with a Ram truck keeps it at the top of every truck owner's list. To make choosing a truck easier, we had our Ram experts break down the different models and explain who makes them. The History of Ram Trucks Initially, Ram was a line of pickup trucks manufactured by Dodge. Chrysler owns Dodge, so at the start, it's fair to say that Chrysler made the Dodge Ram. This first generation of Dodge Ram lasted until 1993, when Ram capitalized on new engine technology and moved ahead of the competition again. From 1994–2009, Dodge Ram trucks were wildly popular because of their rugged look, capability, and elevated interior. However, 2009 saw the breakup of the Dodge–Ram relationship. Ram went solo to focus solely on pickups, and Dodge concentrated all its attention on creating cars. Pundits and the customer base worried that this split would hurt both companies, but in the end, both companies improved their products and consistently produced top-selling models. The latest development occurred in 2021 when an agreement was struck between Fiat-Chrysler and PSA, a French automaker of Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel brands. The two companies formed a new company with a 50–50 partnership named Stellantis. As a result, the Ram truck was produced by Stellantis from then on. 2022 Ram 1500 One of the most popular trucks is the Ram 1500. The 2022 model year offers seven trim levels, with the prices shown in the table below: Trim Level Starting MSRP Ram 1500 Tradesman. $37,090. Ram 1500 Big Horn. $42,405. Ram 1500 Laramie. $51,130. Ram 1500 Powertrain Options Ram offers the 1500 with five powertrain options depending on your preferred model. The Ram 1500 base models come with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with 24 valves and variable valve timing technology paired with Ram's 850RE eight-speed automatic transmission. As a result, this powertrain produces 305 hp and 259 lb-ft torque and tows up to 7,730 lbs. This Pentastar engine comes standard on the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, and Limited Longhorn trims. Next, you have a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with a multi-displacement system and variable valve timing technology mated to the 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission. This duo puts out 395 hp and 410 lb-ft torque and can tow up to 11,610 lbs when properly equipped. Again, the Limited trim comes standard with this engine, and you can opt for it on all trims except the TRX. Ram offers an eTorque version of this 5.7-liter HEMI V-8. Ram's eTorque engine utilizes performance and efficiency-enhancing technologies to raise your towing capacity to 12,750 lbs. You can opt for this engine on every model except the TRX. Only available on the Ram 1500 TRX is a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 engine matched with the TorqueFlite 8HP95 automatic transmission. This powertrain makes the 1500 TRX the most powerful production street-legal half-ton pickup in the world. The TRX powertrain puts out an impressive 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque and clocks a zero to 60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. Additionally, it comes with serious off-road capability and equipment. If you're searching for the perfect blend of power and efficiency, you can opt for a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine with the TorqueFlite automatic transmission on every model except the TRX. This pairing produces 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 12,560 lbs. Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy-Duty Pickup Trucks Ram designed the 2500 and 3500 series trucks to handle heavy-duty towing and hauling jobs. The Ram 2500 and 3500 series each come in the five trim levels listed below: Trim Level Starting MSRP Ram 2500 Tradesman. $43,920. Ram 2500 Big Horn. $48,040. Ram 2500 Laramie. $59,620. If you prefer an off-road-ready model, the Power Wagon has the 4x4 equipment to tackle the harshest terrain. If you’re seeking elevated comfort and convenience, you should gravitate toward the Limited trim for its premium interior. A 6.4-liter heavy-duty HEMI V-8 engine comes standard on every trim. Ram pairs this engine with its 8HP75-LCV eight-speed automatic transmission to produce a best-in-class standard 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain also hauls a payload of 4,010 lbs and tows up to 17,540 lbs. You also have an optional 6.7-liter Cummins inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine mated with the 68RFE six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. This pairing pumps out 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque. As a result, you can tow up to 20,000 lb and haul 3,160 lbs in the bed. Ram 3500 Powertrain Options Ram offers the same two engines in the 3500 as in the 2500 with identical power numbers. However, you have a high-output Cummins turbo-diesel engine paired with the Aisin six-speed automatic transmission as an option. This powertrain produces 420 hp, a best-in-class 1,075 lb-ft of torque, and a best-in-class towing capacity of 37,090 lbs. Aisin Six-Speed Automatic Transmission The Aisin transmission was developed to handle the high-output power from the Cummins turbo-diesel engine. It also uses a fully electronically controlled gearbox that’s been upgraded for more durability. Moreover, the Aisin transmission reduces vibration and noise and utilizes advanced software for smooth on-demand power and seamless shifting. Its brunch menu includes an Irish breakfast with eggs, Irish bacon, sausage, black and white pudding, baked beans, grilled tomato, and hash browns. Dunne's Pub Dunne's Pub is an Irish pub and restaurant in a quaint venue with plenty of outdoor seating. It’s open every day and holds weekly live Irish music sessions on Wednesday nights. Dunne’s Pub has a brunch menu with Irish specialties, as well as a family-style menu, a lunch/dinner menu, and a special Oktoberfest menu with Bavarian meals, such as sauerbraten served with red cabbage and a potato pancake. From the dinner menu, try the beer battered fish and chips or the Irish bangers with beans and curried chips. Location: 15 Shapham Place, White Plains. Visitors and residents of Cortlandt, New York, might know about the town's great cultural events, like those held at its premier music and performing arts center, or Cortlandt's access to incredible parks and restaurants, or the beautiful rolling hills that decorate the city. What they might not know is that the town has a deep and rich history that spans hundreds of years. This town, with all its resplendent and exciting historical significance, is one full of surprises to be explored. Cortlandt's Role in the Revolutionary War The Revolutionary War, which lasted from 1775 to 1783, started when tensions between the 13 North American colonies and the British Crown escalated, ultimately culminating in a violent conflict in Massachusetts in April 1775. A little over a year later, the colonists were in a full-scale war for independence from the British. While we might have all heard some highlights from the Revolutionary War in history class, we might not have learned about Cortlandt's important role in the legendary battles. For most of the war, the British controlled the state of New York, but Cortlandt played a valuable role in turning those tides. Nearby Kings Ferry, a major crossing point of the Hudson River, served a strategic role for the revolutionaries. The ferry connecting Stony Point to Verplanck's Point, was located here in Cortlandt, New York. Art history buffs might even recall a very famous portrait of George Washington at Verplanck's point from the talented John Trumball. French and American armies used the vital crossing to transport supplies, deliver important communications, and successfully march to Yorktown in 1781, just two years before the conclusion of the war and the colonists' victory. Historic Sites in Cortlandt Several historical landmarks exist in Cortlandt, including many that are part of the National Register of Historic Places. Here's a closer look at some notable destinations within Cortlandt: Old Croton Dam Though it now lies beneath the waters of the new Croton Reservoir, the Old Croton Dam represents the first large-scale masonry dam in the United States. Built between 1837 and 1842, the gravity dam measured an impressive 57 feet tall and 670 feet long. The dam was instrumental in the original New York water supply system. Bear Mountain Bridge Road and Toll House Bear Mountain Bridge Road is a 3-mile road that ends at Cortlandt's Bear Mountain Toll House. Sometimes called the "Goat Trail" by residents, the winding road leads to an old Tudor Revival-style toll house. Though the original toll house is no longer in use, visitors can still check out the gift shop and informational center to learn more about the significance of the old road and house. Old St. Peter's Church Frequented by George Washington during the Revolutionary days, Old St. Peter's Church and Cemetery represent some of Cortland's most resplendent history. It's a historic Episcopal church built in 1776. Some might be surprised at the Church's small stature. Its wood frame measures only 28 by 36 feet. John Jones Homestead You can also visit the John Jones Homestead, a historic home in Van Cortlandtville. This home, with its impressive rubble stone foundation and timber frame, is an 18th-century residence. It's 1.5 stories tall and features Federal-style detailing, three large chimneys made of stone, and a gambrel roof, which is a roof with two symmetrical sides. Each side features a shallow slope near the roof's point and has a steeper slope at the lower half of the roof. The roof style is also sometimes called a "Dutch roof." Significant Cortlandt Dates and Events Because of Cortlandt's prominence in the Revolutionary War, many important dates stand out during that time period. Here's a closer look at some events that mark Cortlandt's exciting and consequential history: July 15 and 16, 1779 At midnight on July 15, 1779, the rebels of the Revolutionary War executed their bid for control of Stony Point. The American Light Infantry's brave assault at Stony Point was the last major battle in the North, and the victory changed the course of North American history forever. Shortly following the Americans' destruction of the formerly British-occupied fort, however, Washington abandoned the peninsula, and the British reclaimed it. It wouldn't be enough, though. As the war expanded, the British eventually abandoned Stony Point, moving their forces South and ultimately losing the war. After that, Kings Ferry went back to being the preferred Hudson crossing place. Sept. 20, 1780 Another important event in Cortlandt's history is the capture of Major John Andre, the adjunct general to Sir Henry Clinton, a British army officer. Clinton had been the one to move against Stony Point before the Continental Army marched North from New Jersey to West Point to defend it. Andre's capture followed his meeting with Benedict Arnold, another infamous name in U.S. history. George Washington presented medals to Andre's captors on Sept. 20, 1780 at the Post Hannock House. Today, you can still see the house opposite the Cortlandt Yacht Club. The house also served as the headquarters for Colonel James Livingston. Livingston had opened fire on The Vulture, the British ship that Benedict Arnold and John Andre sought refuge on after attempting to sell West Point to the British in a traitorous move against the American rebels. Important People From Cortlandt Cortlandt isn't just known for its famous places and history, there are some notable people who call Cortlandt home as well. One of the most notable was Aaron Copland. Copland was an American composer. He was born in Brooklyn in 1900 but spent his last 30 years in Cortlandt, New York. His music, so open and evocative of the Pioneer spirit, would define American composition in a new and stunning way. Famous works of Copland's include "Appalachian Spring," "Billy the Kid," and "Fanfare for the Common Man." Van Cortlandtville Historical Society If you have further interest in the area's rich history, consider exploring the efforts of the Van Cortlandtville Historical Society. They host events, publish information about the area and its history, and even have a photo gallery on their website you can browse. Many of the best-loved sushi components are at their optimum quality during the cooler months. Fall and winter, for example, are typically the peak seasons for tuna, salmon, sea bream, shrimp, certain mackerel, and even bonito. So to take advantage of the upcoming seasons, we've compiled a list of the five best sushi spots in and around White Plains, New York. Shiki Sushi & Yakitori Shiki Sushi & Yakitori is a cozy establishment that opened in 2015. A glance at the menu reveals a number of soups and American-style rolls common to a lot of sushi establishments, but a deeper analysis indicates a greater depth to the offerings. The salads, for one thing, are more diverse than what you're likely to find elsewhere. For another, there are five omakase options, where the diner puts their meal entirely in the chef's control. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, more commonly known as FCA, makes up one-half of the merger that forms Stellantis, which is a multinational auto manufacturer that owns the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Fiat brands of motor vehicles. Stellantis has recognized the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in today's automotive market and plans to broaden its own selection of EVs. In fact, the company plans to offer more than 75 battery EVs and realize at least 50% of U.S. sales in this segment by 2030. Let's look at some of the most exciting electric models currently available in this ever-growing lineup, as well as a potential all-electric pickup truck slated for release in 2024. Jeep Wrangler 4xe The 4xe is the plug-in hybrid version of Jeep's popular Wrangler model. Originally introduced in late 2020, the 4xe model combines the ruggedness of the Wrangler with the fuel economy and instant torque of a battery electric car. The current 2022 release of the Wrangler 4xe is available in three distinct trims: Sahara 4xe. Rubicon 4xe. High Altitude 4xe. At each trim level, you get a hybrid powertrain that includes two electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack, and a 2-liter turbocharged I-4 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Powered by this setup, you can expect a fuel economy of 49 MPGe as well as a 21-mile all-electric range. Altogether, you're looking at a driving range of 370 miles before you need to stop to refuel. You can go from Cortland to New York City half a dozen times without a single stop at a fuel pump or charging station. Keep in mind that this is still a Wrangler, so you get to enjoy its renowned off-roading capabilities and its powertrain's environmental friendliness. Not only that, but you also get a variety of excellent features. All trims come with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start capability, a Corning Gorilla Glass windshield, and an infotainment system that includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen and a nine-speaker sound system. With the Rubicon 4xe, you also get electronic locking differentials and an anti-roll bar, while the Sahara comes standard with driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors. Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid Although the history of the Pacifica goes back to the late 1990s, its current iteration saw its beginnings in the 2017 model when it hit the market as the first plug-in hybrid minivan. In 2022, it remains the only minivan available as a plug-in, and it certainly excels in that niche. Its displays a tremendous fuel economy of 80 MPGe, with an all-electric range exceeding 30 miles and a total range greater than 500 miles. In addition to its plug-in capability, the Pacifica features a regenerative braking system that charges the battery with kinetic energy every time you stop. All three trim levels—Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle—feature a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that partners with an electric motor and 16-kWh battery, providing a total system output of 260 horsepower. On top of that, the vehicle offers a terrific amount of interior space. With a total SAE volume of 197.3 cubic feet, the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid, with second-row captain's chairs, comfortably seats seven people. Even in the third row, you get more than 36 inches of legroom. As for cargo space, this model offers a minimum of 32.3 cubic feet, which expands to a maximum of 165 cubic feet. The interior features are also impressive and conducive to family travel. Distributed around the cabin, you'll find 10 cup holders and more than enough USB ports to charge everyone's mobile devices. Parents in the front row can easily watch their passengers with the conversation mirror affixed to the rearview or with an optional interior camera. And for family entertainment, there's the innovative Uconnect Theater system, which includes two 10.1-inch rear-seat screens, streaming content, and a Blu-Ray player. Ram 1500 The Ram 1500 is one of the toughest and most dependable pickup trucks on the market today. Its eTorque mild hybrid system, introduced in the 2019 model, improved its fuel economy without compromising on power. The entry-level engine for the 2022 Ram 1500 is a V-6 that pairs with the eTorque system, which is also available with the higher-level 5.7-liter V-8. With this configuration, the Ram 1500 can get up to 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway—several miles per gallon better than its competitors. You can expect even greater capability from the Ram brand in 2024 when we anticipate the release of the all-electric Ram 1500 EV model. Since the estimated range for this model is up to 500 miles, it will certainly outperform other electric pickups in terms of travel distance. An optional range extender will also be available, which uses an internal combustion engine only to recharge the vehicle's batteries. This is a great way to learn more about different animals, and it keeps the kids busy and entertained. Let's look at some of the best petting zoos in the Hudson Valley. Barton Orchards Barton Orchards on Apple Tree Lane in Poughquag, New York, began as an apple orchard. Over the years, it has expanded into an agricultural adventure that the entire family will enjoy. You'll find a large barn and gated area near the farm entrance where you can interact with the animals. The orchard has farm feed available that guests can take to feed the goats, and you can saunter down to visit the alpacas, rabbits, goats, pigs, mini horses, and peacocks. There's even a goat bridge for the goats to play on. You can watch as they frolic on and around the bridge. Woodstock Farm Sanctuary Common Communication by Thomas is licensed by CC By-SA 2.0 Woodstock Farm Sanctuary rescues farm animals and gives them a safe place to live. Visitors get to meet the animals, learn more about how they ended up at the sanctuary, and educate themselves on animal rights. The farm is home to 400 rescued residents, including cows, goats, bunnies, chickens, pigs, sheep, turkeys, and ducks. Visitors can take a tour around the sanctuary, pet some of the animals, and feed them the snacks that are provided by the tour leader. Dubois Farms Dubois Farms in Highland, New York, is a pick-your-own farm with strawberries, apples, peaches, and more. It also has several farm animals that guests can visit, a hayride that takes you around the grounds, and a miniature village called Tiny Town where the kids can play. Bailiwick Animal Park & Riding Stables Bailiwick Animal Park & Riding Stables is a family-owned ranch that sits on over 300 acres at the foot of the Catskills. The riding stable opened in 1963, and the animal park opened in 2007. The park has over 40 exhibits, including both domestic and exotic animals. The petting and feeding area is always popular with the kids, who can feed and pet the bunnies and other cute animals. Guests of Bailiwick Animal Park can get up close to the animals and learn more about them. The park has all kinds of animals: from Bengal tigers to cute little bunnies. Most of the animals were rescued or donated, and they will all live out the rest of their lives at the zoo. Trailside Museum and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park You'll find the Trailside Museum and Zoo in Bear Mountain State Park. It sits along a short section of the Appalachian Trail and features a paved path that takes visitors past several exhibits that feature native New York wildlife. Most of the animals were rescued and can no longer live in the wild. The zoo is home to a variety of wildlife—from birds to fish, mammals, and amphibians. There's also a Nature Study Museum, which has lots of information about the local wildlife, and the Herpetology Museum, where visitors can learn about native fish and reptiles. The gardens and woodlands are fun to explore. Here, you'll find micro-communities that showcase a diverse selection of plants and vegetation. There are rock outcroppings, low-lying moist pockets for plants that thrive in damp conditions, and a woodland pool and fernery. The Trailside Museum and Zoo is a self-guided experience. You'll find small signs along the way that serve as your naturalist guide and more prominent signs that provide detailed information. Catskill Animal Sanctuary The Catskill Animal Sanctuary in Saugerties is a sanctuary with over 300 rescued animals. As all the animals freely roam the grounds, don't be surprised if a friendly chicken or goat approaches you while you're exploring. The sanctuary offers tours from May through November on Saturdays and Sundays. Some of the animals that you might meet at Catskill Animal Sanctuary include the goats Abram and Izzy; the pig, Amelia; the sheep, Atticus; and the cow, Blossom. There are also horses, turkeys, ducks, and many more. Forsyth Nature Center The Forsyth Nature Center is an outdoor learning center in uptown Kingston, New York. It's part of the Kingston Parks and Recreation Department and has over 24 animal exhibits and beautiful gardens to explore. The nature center is open and accessible to the public all year long. This nature center is great for getting close to nature and animals. Guests can feed apples to the steer and pet the alpacas and friendly lambs. Make sure to visit the turtle house and check out the domestic and wild birds and birds of prey. There's also a reptile house and many small and large mammals that you can visit. Kelder's Farm Kelder's Farm in Kerhonkson has many farm animals, such as sheep, goats, cows, donkeys, and alpacas, that guests can pet. It is also home to one of the largest garden gnomes you will ever see. During a visit to the farm, the kids can play mini golf, have fun in the playground, and jump on the giant jumping pillow. Kelder's Farm is open daily and offers strawberry, pumpkin, and apple picking, depending on the season. There are lots to explore at the large farmers market, and the kids will love the farm equipment, tube slides, and milk-a-cow activity.
