Palisades Climb Adventure

Spend an invigorating day at Palisades Climb Adventure, the world’s tallest rope course. This 85-foot-tall course is open year-round and offers challenging fun for adults and kids taller than 42 inches. If you’ve got little ones, there’s also a Sky Tykes Adventure for toddlers under 48 inches. The course is available for those of any fitness level, with five levels of increasing difficulty. Over 75 challenge elements, like the trembling tremor bridge or a vertical rope ladder, keep kids and their parents active for hours. Balance beams, tight ropes, and other bridges help build strength and develop balance and coordination.

Safety is the first priority, and climbers wear a seat and chest harness to prevent falls. Since the cables aren’t removable until the child exits the course, there’s no way of falling. Adults must accompany children that are under 48 inches while they climb.

Bear Mountain State Park

Bear Mountain State Park is a wonderful destination for families, summer or winter. In winter, you can snowshoe, sled, or spend a day exploring the cross-country ski trails found within the 5,000-acre park. From October to March, an ice-skating rink is available for additional outdoor fun. Skate rentals are available, as well as concessions so that the kids can warm up with a tasty cup of hot chocolate after your skating fun. The beautiful mountain views are stunning when the peaks are buried beneath a layer of snow.

This popular destination, drawing over 3 million visitors per year, also features Trailside Museums and Zoo. This self-guided nature trail tour, open year-round, allows visitors to observe and learn about local trees, plants, and wildlife. The park suggests a donation of $1 per person to visit the trail, and parking at Bear Mountain State Park is $10 in summer and on holidays and weekends year-round.

Legoland Discovery Center

Kids of all ages enjoy letting their imaginations roam free while they build with the millions of bricks at Legoland Discovery Center in Westchester. When you go, don’t miss The Big Apple, an interactive model of New York City’s key landmarks built with over 1.5 million bricks. Kids can build their own creations by themselves or learn how to make anything out of interlocking bricks at the LEGO Master Builder Academy.

Building with Lego blocks isn’t the only thing to do at this destination, which also has 12 attractions and rides. Families can also visit the LEGO 4D Cinema that adds wind, rain, and snow effects to the viewing experience to make the movies as lifelike as possible.

Muscoot Farm

Muscoot Farm is open year-round, and visiting in the winter can be just as much fun as summer visits. Once a working dairy farm, today it’s a 777-acre park where families can learn about history, agriculture, and wildlife in a beautiful natural environment. Visit over 50 animals in pens and barns as you pet cows, horses, goats, and more—Tour historic buildings like a milk house or an ice house. Families can also attend onsite educational programs or walk miles of trails while observing foliage and wildlife.

Muscoot Farm offers a variety of seasonal activities like hayrides in spring, summer, and fall. They also offer holiday tours in December. The farm is also a great place to host birthday parties.
