Dodge has decided to bring back the demon from its past that promises to outperform its popular 707-horsepower Hellcat models. It’s officially called the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and it’s set to make its global debut for the New York International Auto Show in April.

Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis says, “It’s a next Hellcat, it’s part of our heritage and it’s a great name.” The Demon was originally a two-door fastback hardtop variant of the 1971-1972 Dodge Dart. Dodge also built a roadster concept car called the Dodge Demon at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show however it never came to light.

Kuniskis is being mum on the specific. Videos with details of the car are being released weekly heading up to the New York International Auto Show. The website that will host the videos is www.ifyouknowyouknow.com and so far has released the car’s logo and the first video.

Kuniskis states, “The car is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation.” With that kind of statement combined with the promise to outperform the Hellcat, it is going to be packing some serious heat. The Hellcat features a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine that churns out 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

The Demon will be for sale alongside the Hellcat SRT Challenger and Charger models, which are continuing for the 2018 model year, according to Kuniskis. It can help bring some momentum to Dodge, who has discontinued the Dodge Dart.
