How To Spend the Holidays in White Plains, NY

As the year slowly begins to come to an end, the holidays are only ramping up. Gather your friends, family members, or partners to explore White Plains, New York, during this season. Westchester Turkey Trot

White Plains, NY Holiday Season

On Thursday, Nov. 24, is the fifth annual Westchester Turkey Trot, a 5k or 10k run or walk. Register for the event online, and pick up your runner’s packet from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. on race day. For children, the kids’ dash begins at 8:45 a.m. Then, the adults start their race at 9 a.m. If you’re participating in the 5k course, it’ll take one hour and 20 minutes to complete, while the 10k course takes one hour and 50 minutes to finish. While you can pick up your packet on race morning, the event doesn’t recommend it.

The other options for getting your runner packets are having them mailed to your home for $14.99 or picking them up in person the day before the race, Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Westchester Road Runner located at 179 E. Post Road in White Plains. After the race, you can enjoy some donuts at the finish line. If you’re in the White Plains, New York, area, it’s only a nine-minute drive to Valhalla, New York.

Fall Foliage Tours

Marvel at the beauty of New York’s fall foliage like never before by booking a fall foliage tour by helicopter. The trip begins in Westchester county and lasts about 30 to 45 minutes. In addition to seeing the colorful changing leaves while you’re on the helicopter, you can see special landmarks, such as the Castle-on-Hudson, Bear Mountain, and Indian Point Energy Center. Tickets for a private couple’s tour are about $765 per two individuals. The tour price doesn’t include the airport fee of $35.

If you need to cancel your tour reservations, do it at least 24 hours prior to your time for a full refund. Children under two years old may ride for free, seated in a guardian’s lap. An adult must give their consent for those under 18 interested in the ride.

Saxon Woods Park

The Saxon Woods Park is a great area to go on a walk with friends and look at the pretty trees or take the kids out to the playground when it’s not too cold. Explore the 700 acres with various activities to do on your own or with others. There are many amenities for children, specifically a playground that’s accessible with ramps for all kids to play. Inside the park, there’s also an 18-hole mini golf course, an outdoor pool, a children’s aquatic playground, and picnic areas.

To park in the picnic area, it’s $5 with a pass and $10 without one. However, when it’s chilly outside, you can go on hikes in the forest, ride horseback in the fall, and cross-country ski in the winter. It’s important to note all pets must be on a leash, and service animals are welcome.

Grapes The Wine Company

Spend an afternoon or evening at Grapes The Wine Company with some good company. Taste various wines, spirits, and whiskeys in time for the holidays. When you find one you enjoy, purchase a bottle to take home and share, such as some prosecco, zinfandel, chardonnay, or pinot noir to pair with Thanksgiving, Christmas, or other holiday dinners. Additionally, while you’re there or if you visit the site online, you can purchase gift cards to share with fellow wine lovers this giving season.

The show is a Scott Coulter, and you’ll listen to lovely renditions of your favorite classic holiday music to get you into the festive spirit.

Benjamin Steakhouse

After spending time at the park in the cooler weather or sipping on wine, make your way to the Benjamin Steakhouse for a savory dinner. The restaurant’s interior design offers a cozy atmosphere, allowing you to feel comfortable and unwind during the bustling holiday season. Westchester Magazine voted the restaurant the best steakhouse in 2021, so you know it won’t disappoint you when you eat your meal. Here are some items you have to choose from on the Thanksgiving menu:
