Dodge Challenger Fuel Efficiency

December 1st, 2022 by

If you’re looking for a performance car that doesn’t guzzle gas, you should include the 2023 Dodge Challenger in your shortlist. Despite being one of the quickest and most powerful production cars in the world, this Dodge model delivers great practicality with its impressive gas mileage and spacious cabin. It’s one of the few muscle cars you won’t mind driving daily to and from work. Let’s take a closer look at the fuel efficiency and other aspects of the latest version of the legendary Dodge Challenger.

Engines and Fuel Economy Ratings

Dodge Challenger Fuel Efficiency

The fuel economy of the 2023 Dodge Challenger varies greatly depending on which engine you choose. Standard in the SXT and GT is a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 303 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque. This unit provides ample power for most driving tasks, such as cruising around town or merging with highway traffic. It’s the best choice if you use the car for commuting. However, with a zero-to-60-mph time of about 6.3 seconds, a V-6-equipped model is by no means dull to drive.

If you want a more thrilling driving experience, you’ll be better off getting a Challenger with a V-8 engine. The smallest V-8 in the lineup is found under the hood of the R/T trim. It’s a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 that generates 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, which makes it significantly more potent than the base engine. Up next is a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 that powers the R/T Scat Pack. Rated at 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, it can propel the muscle car from zero to 60 mph in a little over four seconds.

Enjoy hitting the track on weekends? Then, opt for one of the drag-strip-worthy SRT models. These Challengers are equipped with a monstrous 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 that delivers varying power outputs in different models. The SRT Hellcat provides 717 horsepower and 656 lb-ft of torque, while the SRT Hellcat Redeye uses a high-output version of the engine to produce 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque.

At the top of the engine, lineup is an even higher-output supercharged V-8, which serves up an incredible 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. This power plant comes standard in the SRT Super Stock and SRT Jailbreak. The SRT Super Stock can rocket from zero to 60 mph in less than 3.3 seconds, making it one of the quickest production cars on the road.

The most fuel-efficient engine of the Dodge Challenger is the base 3.6-liter V-6. Paired with rear-wheel drive, it enables the SXT and GT to return 19/30 mpg (city/highway), which is impressive for a performance car. If you prefer all-wheel drive, you’ll see the ratings drop to 18/27 mpg (city/highway). The 5.7-liter V-8 of the R/T earns 16/25 mpg (city/highway), whereas the 6.4-liter V-8 gives the R/T Scat Pack 15 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

If you decide to go for one of the SRT models, fuel economy probably doesn’t matter much to you. Still, you’ll get 13 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, which is better than many rivals with a similar horsepower output.

Other Great Features of the 2023 Dodge Challenger

Besides powerful yet efficient engines, the 2023 Dodge Challenger has many other attributes and features that make it an awesome muscle car. Overall, it’s a well-rounded vehicle with no major flaws. Below are some of the top features of the new Dodge Challenger:

Athletic Handling

Despite being relatively large, the Dodge Challenger is surprisingly easy to drive, thanks to its well-weighted and responsive steering. It does a great job of navigating tight situations, such as heavy traffic, narrow lanes, and parking lots. Due to its low center of gravity, the muscle car is also able to remain sure-footed around corners and along twisty roads, making it a blast to drive.

All Challengers are equipped with strong brakes to inspire confidence on the road, but higher trims have Brembo brakes to handle their immense power. The SRT models have a performance-tuned chassis and huge tires to deliver more engaging and spirited driving dynamics. While they feel most at home on race tracks and drag strips, they also handle well on city streets.

Roomy and Comfortable Cabin

Few performance cars have a roomier cabin than the Dodge Challenger. This Dodge model provides plenty of legroom in both the front and back rows, enough to fit most adults comfortably. Furthermore, the seats provide excellent cushioning and support to ensure you and your passengers feel relaxed even after hours of driving.

Spacious Trunk

If you frequently need to transport a lot of stuff or go on road trips, you’ll appreciate the spacious trunk of the Dodge Challenger. The muscle car offers 16.2 cubic feet of truck space, the largest in its segment. That’s enough for plenty of shopping bags or several suitcases. You can also fold down the rear seats to expand the cargo area for storing longer items.

Intuitive and Feature-Rich Infotainment System

Every Dodge Challenger comes with a user-friendly and responsive Uconnect infotainment system to help you stay informed and entertained on the go. The standard version of this system includes a 7-inch touch-screen display, a six-speaker sound system, USB ports, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. For an enhanced in-vehicle experience, you can get upgrades such as an 8.4-inch touch-screen display, a six- or nine-speaker Alpine audio system, an 18-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system, navigation, and satellite radio.
